Mentoring at the St Edith Stein Grammar School has a long-standing tradition. Three times a year, each form teacher becomes a mentor – a guide, confidant and source of support whom students can turn to.
Our aim is not only to educate, but also to accompany young people on their path towards personal growth. A mentor knows how to listen, to see the world through the student’s eyes, while at the same time maintaining the necessary distance and offering constructive feedback. They help students to reflect on their goals – academic, personal and value-based.
Each meeting provides space for an individual conversation. Students can talk about what they are experiencing, where they are heading and how they are getting on. The form teacher, or from the fourth year onwards a selected mentor, supports them in seeking answers, setting realistic goals and finding a balance between school and personal life.
Mentoring at GYMES is not merely a programme, but part of our culture. We believe that every young person needs someone who sees them as a whole – not as a set of grades, but as a unique individual. Through trust, an individual approach and a shared search for answers, we succeed in creating an environment where students mature not only in knowledge, but also in character. And this is what we consider to be our most important mission.
