Great Works Academy at GYMES

The Great Works Academy is an extracurricular programme in which participants engage in discussion with the greatest thinkers who have shaped our civilisation.

The program follows the principles of classical and character education used at the world’s leading universities. The mission of the Academy is to help each participant become the best version of themselves.

How does it work? At Academy club meetings, participants watch high-quality films, read some of the greatest books, listen to high-quality music, and reflect on famous paintings. They seek answers to life’s great questions through great stories.

Discussion clubs of the Great Works Academy for secondary school students have been organised at GYMES since the 2019-2020 school year. In the 2023-2024 school year, we expanded the programme to include colleagues and parents as well.

Through discussions of great works, students, as well as their parents and teachers, come to know themselves and the world.

“The Academy educates students academically, but even more so on a personal and character level. It helps them become good people. I do not know what more parents could wish for.” - graduate of the Academy of Great Works at GYMES
