At our bilingual grammar school, the English language plays a key role. Our experienced team of English teachers provides instruction focused on a high level of practical language competence so that students are able to use English actively in everyday life, in their university studies at home and abroad, as well as in their future professional careers.

At GYMES, we offer systematic and intensive English language instruction with the aim that every student reaches level C1 after 5 years of study and also successfully completes their school-leaving examination at this level. Year 1 – level B1

Year 3 – level B2 (Cambridge First Certificate)

Year 5 – level C1

In order to achieve the required language level, English instruction in Year 1 is truly intensive and includes: • 5 English language lessons per week • 2 lessons of English conversation • 3 lessons of English grammar • 2 lessons of English and American literature

From Year 2 to Year 5, students have at least 4 English lessons per week, supplemented by conversation classes with a native speaker and specialised subjects such as English and American Literature and Business English.

More than just a language Instruction is not focused solely on grammar and vocabulary. We teach students to discuss, argue, read with comprehension, present and navigate academic and specialised texts.

The English Language Team also actively supports students in presenting their language skills. Competitions are regularly organised, such as: • English Language Olympiad • Recitation competitions • Translation competition • Competition in original literary writing in English.
